"Pre-owned" Computer gear
(mostly Macintosh or related)

I have avoided listing any of this on eBay (so far), because it's a lot more work to sell it there.  Mac aficianados (and others) may find some of it useful.  It's all in excellent condition and good working order, unless noted otherwise.  Almost all of these items were used by me at one time or another.  Items are sold "as-is", so do your own research, if necessary, although I am happy to dispense advice :-)

SHIPPING: Local pickup in the Greater Boston area would save you shipping charges.  I ship via USPS Priority Mail (and now Parcel Post as well -- sometimes less expensive, takes longer).  While it's possible to repack or combine items for shipping, everything is presently boxed by item #.  Prices shown below do not include shipping, but you can click above for a rate calculator. [everything ships from ZIP code 02420 -- near Boston, MA]

Networking Products

76  Linksys Wireless-B Access Point WAP11 v1.1 (802.11b -- 11Mbps wireless) w/AC adapter, USB cable & manual. This was an access point I used until recently when I upgraded to a wireless/wired router that would support the Linksys Parental Controls feature.  It is simply removed from service and works perfectly (as tested recently using an Apple iBook).  You simply plug this access point into any RJ-45 10Base-T (or better) wired internet connection, so you can put it where it is needed.  I used to take it along when I would travel, if there was network, but it didn't supportwireless access. 3 lbs $20
71
Linksys Cable/DSL Router BEFSR41 (4-port WIRED Ethernet switch w/router) w/AC adapter & manual. This was my primary router/firewall until very recently when I upgraded to a wired/wireless unit that would support the Linksys Parental Controls feature.  It is simply removed from service.  Every few months I would power it down and up; it's that reliable.  Note that if your cable modem or DSL connection supports >6Mbps, you probably want to use a newer unit, since I think this one tops out in that range.  I had this hooked up to my gigabit Ethernet home network (sometimes I just can't resist when a 5-port 10/100/1000 switch costs $28 after rebate).

6 PhoneNET (Farallon & others) connectors for the original AppleTalk (a.k.a. LocalTalk).  Has serial port cable on one end and two telephone connectors on the other.  A couple of telephone cables are also included.  Handy for connecting a few old Macintosh machines together into a network when  performance is not an issue.  Can also be used with some of the older Apple LaserWriters (e.g. I kept my Personal LaserWriter 630 on our home network using one of these plugged into an Asante LocalTalk to Ethernet adapter). 2 lbs

Miscellaneous items

74
SONY SPP-M920 2-line cordless telephone (phone, base, AC adapter/charger).  Functional, though not in perfect cosmetic condition (e.g. tip of phone antenna fell off).  This is a 900MHz digital phone.  SONY BP-T23 battery is in unknown condition (though not dead), but batteries are available for just a couple of dollars on ebay.  The base has an extra battery charging bay.  Sorry, no manual.

Delkin eFilm Reader-4 SmartMedia to USB (1.0) adapter.  In original box with instruction manual and install CD (says: for MacOS 8, Windows 95/98).  Most recent MacOS and Windows computers will recognize the SmartMedia using this reader without installing any drivers.  [Hint: Always remember to EJECT your media before removing from reader.  Sad to say, but DOS (and maybe Windows 95/98?) had it right: you could just pull out the media at any time, as long as it wasn't actually accessing it.]

Apple Macintosh PowerBook 540c
I spent a whole summer sitting on the porch using this unit to write email
using Netscape 4.08 (last version that runs on 68K processor).
  • MacOS 7.5.5 on 68K processor (sorry, it isn't a PowerMac)
  • 36MB DRAM
  • 320MB Hard Disk
  • 2 batteries, both charged (working condition, but probably lifespan impaired)
  • Power Supply (w/wall adapter plug)
  • 10Base-T Ethernet transceiver (plugs into AAUI connector)
  • External Mac Display adapter cable
  • SCSI drive cable (HDI to 50-pin)
  • SCSI target cable (intended for PowerBook acting like SCSI disk)
  • Extra clock battery (not installed)
  • this unit is missing the plastic internal screen hinge cover, but is otherwise in fine condition

61 Apple Macintosh PowerBook 540c
Same as #60, except that it sometimes comes up with a "scrambled screen,"
however closing and opening it (or gently whacking it) fixes the problem.
It also probably needs a clock battery.  Maybe I should just keep it and
make it into a smart picture frame?
  • MacOS 7.5.5 (sorry, it isn't a PowerMac)
  • 28MB DRAM (but I'll throw in a 32MB upgrade card -- uninstalled)
  • 320MB Hard Disk
  • 1 battery, charged (working condition, but probably lifespan impaired)
  • Power Supply (w/wall adapter plug)
  • 10Base-T Ethernet transceiver (plugs into AAUI connector)
  • External Mac Display adapter cable
  • SCSI drive cable (HDI to 50-pin)
  • SCSI drive cable (HDI to 25-pin)

Apple PowerMac 4400 w/Sonnet Crescendo G3 L2 processor upgrade (400MHz)
  • 112MB DRAM
  • Seagate 17GB IDE Hard Disk
  • CDROM, 3.5" floppy drive
  • 2 PCI Slots + 1 Comm II slot containing:
    • includes rare Farallon 10/100Base-T Ethernet card (uses Comm II slot)
    • ATTO Express PCI SCSI-2 high performance disk controller
    • Sonnet Tango 2 port FireWire + 2 port USB PCI combo card
    • also includes original modem card for Comm II slot (replaced by 10/100 card)
  • Lots of software left installed (typical Mac stuff) w/CDROM backup
  • Keyboard, mouse, microphone, power cord
This is a great deal on the workhorse computer I originally bought as a server and internet gateway and which my wife used for several years thereafter.  Add a VGA monitor and it's ready to go.  Fully internet capable, etc. Has MacOS 9.1 installed.  Note that this machine probably won't run MacOS X.

63

Apple PowerMac 8100 w/Newer MaxPowr G3 card (240MHz)
  • Lots of software left installed (typical Mac stuff) w/CDROM backups
  • 136MB DRAM
  • Western Digital 9GB SCSI Hard Disk (2 partitions)
  • CDROM, 3.5" floppy drive
  • 3 NuBus Slots + 1 PDS slot containing:
    • MaxPowr G3 (uses PDS slot)
    • Macintosh PDS Display card (connected to MaxPower G3 card) w/VGA adapter
    • ATTO Silicon Express IV (SE-IV )SCSI-2 disk controller  (has an internal 50 pin connector, an internal 68 pin connector, and an external  68 pin connector)
    • <empty slot>
  • Keyboard, mouse, microphone, power cord
  • 10Base-T Ethernet transceiver (plugs into AAUI connector on back)
  • Custom Built-in Audio AV cable (HDI-45 connector to audio connectors -- 1/4 in. & RCA)
  • Macintosh HDI-45 to DB-15 Macintosh monitor cable
This is a great deal on the computer I used as my personal working machine for several years.  Just add any VGA monitor and it's ready to go.  Fully internet capable, etc.  I even replaced the dead clock battery.  Has MacOS 8.6 installed and may be able to use as late as 9.1 (but I haven't tried it with the MaxPowr G3 card).  The parts of this machine alone still sell for well more than $50 on the used market.   Also see #64 below.   Note that this machine probably won't run MacOS X.

Apple Macintosh Centris 610 "pizza box" w/DayStar 100MHz PowerPC 601 PDS upgrade
  • 36MB DRAM (32MB DRAM SIMMs + 4MB onboard)
  • <>1GB SCSI hard disk (IBM DPES-31080 S31S)
(about 3/4 full with a variety of software w/MacOS 7.5.5 -- the last 68K/PPC version)
  • Keyboard (full original "heavy" Mac keyboard), Mouse, Power cord.
Includes the PDS bracket which holds the DayStar PowerPC card.  Also includes an alternate PDS to Nubus bracket and a Newer N10 10-Base-T Ethernet card.  You can run this as a PowerPC with no networking (unless you use an Asante LocalTalk adapter and network via AppleTalk) or you can remove the PowerPC card and run it as a 68040LC with Ethernet.  I tend to choose the PowerPC and forego networking, since this is not the best machine with which to browse the Internet.  The case of this machine is rather yellowed and has the circular outline of where a monitor sat on top.  This was my dad's old office computer at one time.  Yes, he really used it to run his business!   Note that it has only a floppy drive, but not a CDROM (though it has a bay for one).  If you need one for it, I do have several external CDROM units for sale in this listing (see #32, #33, #34).  Note that these machines can be directly upgraded to a PowerMac 6100/60 (look for such items on ebay), but there are quite a few gotchas  I'd stick with trying to use it as is.  Note that this machine probably won't run MacOS X.

Apple Macintosh Quadra 700 w/DayStar 100MHz PowerPC 601 PDS upgrade
This is my favorite machine of all time.  It was the fastest unit in the smallest package (LC475 excepted).  I sometimes used this machine for audio recording (includes an AudioMedia II NuBus card).

68040 based Macintosh with a 100MHz PowerPC card installed.  It is one of the only compact Macintosh cases that you can stand up as a vertical micro-tower.  I still can't get over the fact that when new, it cost around $4,000!  I used this as a graphics software development machine (it supports 24-bit color for smaller screen sizes, or 256 colors at 1152x870).  Case and keyboard are somewhat yellowed, but otherwise it is in fine, working condition.
  • 68040 Processor @ 25/50MHz
  • PowerPC 601 PDS Upgrade card (DayStar PPC 601)
  • 68MB DRAM (max possible)
  • 2MB VRAM
  • >= 1GB Hard Disk
  • 1.44MB 3.5" Floppy Drive
  • MacOS 7.5.5 installed (8.1 on disk, ready to install)
  • 1 PDS/NuBus combo slot (used by DayStar PPC 601 PDS upgrade card)
  • 1 NuBus slot w/Digidesign AudioMedia II installed
  • 2 ADB ports (keyboard, etc.)
  • SCSI (25-pin connector)
  • 2 serial ports
  • AAUI network connector (I have included the 10Base-T Ethernet adapter).
  • Switched extended power outlet for monitor (monitor not included).
  • Keyboard, Mouse, and power cord
You can boot this Quadra 700 as a 68040 or as a PowerPC processor (Power Macintosh Card control panel lets you switch).  The installed System 7.5.5 works either way and is compatible with a large amount of older software.  You can run MacOS 8.x (8.1 included) only when it is booted as a PowerPC.  Even newer OSes (possibly as late as 9.1) will probably work (but I haven't tried).

Clean OS install of 7.5.5, but I have also included a large assortment of over 500MB of useful software (freeware & shareware, including tons of games).

http://www.ralentz.com/old/mac/hardware/dale-adams/video-quad700-900.html

Note that this unit is sold as-is, but I have tried to make it useful right out of the box.  Just add a monitor and you're ready to go.   You can use with any VGA monitor, though you need an adaptor (I have them if you want @ $5 ea.).    Note that this machine probably won't run MacOS X.

Apple Macintosh LC 475 (a.k.a. Quadra 605) .  This used to be one of the most compact Macintosh models ever made (OK, pre-Mini).  I added 10Base-T (using the PDS LC card) to it and used it to control X-10 lighting around the house (via a serial port to X-10 adapter -- not included).  The machine is almost silent, and while it's only a 68K and runs MacOS 7.5.5, you can find all sorts of old applications around for it (mostly for free).

68040LC based Macintosh LC 475 w/clean OS install of MacOS 7.5.5.
  • 68040 Processor @ 25/50MHz
  • 36MB DRAM (32MB SIMM + 4MB on motherboard)
  • 350MB Hard Disk
  • 1.44MB 3.5" Floppy Drive
  • MacOS 7.5.5 installed
  • 2 ADB ports (keyboard, etc.)
  • SCSI (25-pin connector)
  • 2 serial ports
  • 10Base-T Ethernet card installed
  • Keyboard, Mouse, and power cord

PowerMac 6220CD Power supply (also see item #39) in working condition. The Story:

My wife would love all of this gear to leave before it takes over the house -- not to mention that she'd rather not have me acquire any more "junk" until much of this has departed.  Please make me a reasonable offer (and take as much as possible at one time to minimize trips to mail it off, etc.).
Prices here are suggested (but not unreasonable, since they cover cleaning up, checking items, packing, etc.).

I'm happy to consider reasonable offers on combinations of items.
